Class

So Utah History

A Utah history course inspired in part by Utah 4th grade history standards. The name is a bit of a joke: it does put extra emphasis on southern Utah, but it still covers Utah more broadly.

This class

  • Students explore Utah history through place, communities, change over time, and regional identity
  • The course gives added attention to southern Utah while still connecting local stories to the rest of the state
  • Students connect Utah events to the broader American story
  • Inspired in part by Utah 4th grade history standards, but built to go beyond checklist coverage
  • Live meetings can include maps, timelines, source discussion, and place-based historical analysis

What families should know

  • Units and materials vary by session and are shared before kickoff
  • Depending on the session, students may compare southern Utah, statewide developments, and the surrounding region
  • The class can include geography, migration, settlement, institutions, and cultural change
  • No prior background is required unless a future session says otherwise
